The National Technical University of Athens is hosting the 2nd Summer School of the ERASMUS MUNDUS Program “Master in Advanced Solid Mechanics-STRAINS”.

The summer school is organized by Prof. Konstantinos V. Spiliopoulos (kvspilio@central.ntua.gr ), Institute of Structural Analysis & Antiseismic Research of the School of Civil Engineering of NTUA.

The school will take place from the 10th to 14th July 2023 at the Zografou Campus of the NTUA in Athens, Greece.

Two parallel Courses will be delivered:

1) A series of morning lectures, on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Algorithms, under the title:

“Deep Learning for Scientist and Engineer”

The course will consist of lectures and hands on implementation of Physics informed neural network, DeepONet, Neural ODE and multi-gpu scientific computing. The implementation of trained PINN and DeepoNet mode in conventional numerical solvers will be also demonstrated.

The course will be presented by Kremraj Shukla, Assist. Professor, Department of Mathematics, Brown University, USA.

2) A series of afternoon lectures, on Inelastic Constitutive Modeling, under the title:

“Demystifying Plasticity Theory: foundation and advanced constitutive modeling”

In the course, fundamentals of inelastic constitutive modeling of solids, with emphasis on rate independent plasticity of metals, will be presented. Extension to soils will be also considered. Specific constitutive models will be analyzed and applied, addressing some complex loading conditions such as cyclic loading and multiaxial ratchetting.

The course will be presented by Yiannis Dafalias, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of California, Davis, USA.

The school is reserved for the students of the first two intakes of STRAINS. Any interested member from the NTUA community may also attend, through link connection to be announced.
