Dr. Dimitrios Tsamboulas is a Professor at the National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.), Department of Transportation Planning & Engineers, Faculty of Civil Engineering. Since February 2013, he is member of the NTUA Council.

He was born on 31/07/1950 in Piraeus and he is married with three children. He holds a Diploma of Civil Engineer of National Technical University of Athens, Greece (1973), Master of Science (M.Sc) of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.A. (1975), Civil Engineering Degree, of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.A. (1981), and also holds a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PH.D) of University of Massachusetts, U.S.A. (1983).

He speaks in addition to Greek fluently two languages (English and French) and has some knowledge of two more languages (Italian and German).

Since 1973 has Academic and Professional experience on all modes of transport (road, air, rail, maritime and intermodal), as well as apssenger and freight,  in areas such as: feasibility studies of transport infrastructure projects, PPP in transport projects, transportation management, decision support systems, transport policies, modelling and forecasting, intermodality, transport logistics, new technologies and information systems for transport applications, Cost-Benefit and Multi-Criteria Analysis, etc.

 He is a member of a number of Professional Bodies in Greece and abroad (Technical Chamber of Greece, Association of Greek Professional Civil Engineers, Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineer, etc.). He is also a member of many Scientific Committees in Greece and abroad and reviewer of International Scientific Journals.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of  the AThens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) from 2007- March 2010, Chairman of the High Level Committee for the National System for  Coordination of Education, Vocational Education and Training with the Employment (2006-2007), member of the Board of Directors of the Athens International Airport (2004-2009) and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greek Railways (1989-1993).

 He has participated as a Researcher and Consultant in projects and studies, elaborated or being in progress in Greece and abroad, which have been financed by the European Commission, European Court of Auditors, and United Nations - Economic Commission for Europe, as well as Greek Organizations. He has been a project manager or participated in more than 70 research projects financed by the European Commission or other organizations and has been involved in more than 50 international and national consultancy studies in Greece, E.U., Africa and in Phare countries.

He is the co-author of two books, co-editor of one book and has elaborated more than 250 scientific publications with numerous citations.
